Refuge Friday

A quiet, sunny day, no clouds and no raptors. Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, blackbirds, swallows, Ruddy Duck, coots, etc..... Saw a couple of juvenile Black-crowned Night-herons flying by.
Very few people...Yay!

When you have a red body and a blue bill and a white head - pretty hard to hide anywhere!

Pied bill Grebe - non-breeding.

Black-necked stilt - talking at me cause I'm too close...

Not all white little butterflies are created the same.

A face only a mother could love..

Father's Day - second batch

Here's more from a wonderful Father's Day!

We probably saw over a thousand White-faced Ibis during the visit. They were everywhere on the land and in the air.

This bird catches flies but has a different name than flycatcher. I'll remember sooner or later.

Northern Rough-winged Swallow, I believe.

Cliff Swallows...

It never moved - GBH.

Snowy egrets in the playa

Cinnamon Teal - awesomely beautiful bird that was everywhere in the refuge.

Clark's Grebe..

We thought this GBH might be eating weeds, but on closer look you can see the carp in its mouth. There is another carp highlighted in the water a ways in front and down from the heron.

Finally, Flamboyant Freddie, the Pheasant!

Father's Day

Lisa and I spend Father's day together out in the wilds of somewhere. Often it has been Antelope Island; this year we went to Bear River Refuge to see what we could see. A long day, but the swallows kept the bugs off us and the wild birds kept us occupied.
From baby Curlew to egrets to ducks to herons and more - it was a great day. And so much more wonderful to share with each other!

Lovey-dovey Ravens..

Nature's Designs

The refuge, while a wonderful place to photograph wildlife, also includes its share of designs by Mother Nature. Walk slowly and look for scenes like these...
