Plants and Geese

Sometimes I think that I am always putting up the same thing, perhaps so, but the beauty always seems new to me. Besides, it's my blog! :-)

Supermoon Eclipse night!

Well, it came and we saw it!  It was over an hour late in showing up (begs the question of how can the moon be late) based on what had happened the night before - go figure! And we had about given up when my son-in-law walked out the front door and hollered at us!

Here's some shots of the various stages starting with the first view.

Already in eclipse as it came over the mountain:

Front Porch Shots

Our front porch looks directly at the Oquirrh Mountains...and with a bit of body movement you can see to Ogden as well as Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake. Here's some shots that I enjoyed as I prepared for the big moon night tomorrow!

Practicing for tomorrow..

Golden Hour

As we arrived last Saturday at the cabin in the mountains we approached the final section of road at the Golden Hour - and it truly made some things golden!  Here's a couple of shots to illustrate.

More mountain stuff

Going back through photos from the larger landscapes to the smaller intimate views from time in the mountains. Here's a few shots...

Mountain time

We spent a couple of days at friends cabin in the mountains above Fairview and had wonderful weather and lots of fall color. Leaves are not at their peak yet, but no matter they are beautiful and exciting.
Here's a few shots from our time there..

Saw these wild turkeys on the way up..

Orange leaves are smashing!

Yellow and green and purple and light and shadows.

I love the smaller views..

Maybe there is hope for the winter!!

After the sun rose this morning Deseret Peak appeared in a cloud window for a few moments to show off it's new snow blanket!

Stormy weather produces rainbows!

We had a wonderful storm over the past couple of days providing some much needed moisture as well as many views of wondrous beauty. Here's some of the one's I captured.

Morning peekaboo over the Oquirrhs.

Rainbow yesterday was spectacular.

The 'bow devolved into this magic gem in the sky!

Miscellaneous

The unsettled weather makes for a lot of beautiful sights - but instead of those here are a couple of shots from yesterday.

Autumn views and sunset

While it has been hot here in the valley Mother Nature has done her work for the fall in the mountains just above us.  The reds and yellows along with the green conifers are spectacular right now.
Haze made the sunset unique.

Hanging out at Timpie Springs

I had a block of time today so spent 3 hours just sitting behind a bush at Timpie Springs WMA to see what I could see. The long lens was a godsend as was the new camera.
While not a lot of activity at this time of year, there were sightings of Osprey, Northern Harrier Hawks, Canada Geese, White Pelicans, American Avocets, Black-necked Stilts and a very curious Western Grebe. Not all got to be photographed for a variety of reasons! But without mosquitoes to hassle me and with a slight breeze the time spent was very enjoyable and comfortable.
Here's some of the views of the day:

Resplendent in black and white, the Avocet watched me quite carefully.

Until you sit still for a while you probably won't see these very small butterflies.

Classic Northern Harrier turn during the hunt.

Non-breeding Western Grebe followed me up and down the dike!

Fall in the west desert - salt grass is turning color.

Sliver of a moon!

Just before the sky got too light the sliver of a moon was rising above the Oquirrhs.

Fuzzy

Fuzzy joins me out on the Adirondacks quite often.  He takes one and I take the other. Murphy lies on the grass and occasionally has to come up to show his jealousy!

Lonely Antelope

This guy was walking a well-worn path across the now dry bottom of the Great Salt Lake on his way to who knows where? The empty space is what makes the photo a bit unique.

Visit to Antelope Island

Murph and I visited Antelope Island early this morning for the first time in a long time. Birds and flowers and antelope and coyote along with the ubiquitous bison were all there. MJ enjoyed chasing rabbit scent and hopefully I wore him out!

Enjoy!

Peek-a-boo!

I thought this buck was going to run over me! He came charging down the hill right at me but then swerved away!
