I probably have a head start on most in terms of paying attention to what is around me in the woods; as I spent much of my childhood in the woods, mostly alone, observing faeries and such! When I hike I want to be quiet - no or minimal talking - so that I can see and appreciate what is around me. Often I do not cover a lot of territory quickly - too much to stop and look at.
Here's an example; Murphy and I were hiking and, as usual, he was running around ahead of me. This photo was not obvious, but the light stopped me and caused me to walk around the split wood to find this shot.
Face in wood.
