Maine, the first day.

Diana and I are in Maine on vacation for a week.  We flew into Boston late on 9/5, found our motel quickly and hit the road in the morning.  After all the weather the past week on the coast, the day was wonderfully clear in the morning - 70+ and finished out the same way after an afternoon of partly cloudy.  A perfect traveling day.
We had a virtual guide - our daughter Lisa - who just completed her 30th year of traveling to Maine in the same area.  She guided us to Kennebunkport, Biddeford Pool, Bradfords General Store, and lots of places in between that we would never have seen without her guidance.
Our journey started in Boston and ended in Boothbay Harbor - where we relaxed on the front lawn in an adirondack chair overlooking the bay with a glass of wine.  Simply wonderful.  Then dinner and back to the Topside Inn where I'm sitting in a leather chair doing my posting.
Here's a  few of the scenes that captured me today:
We had lunch at the Cape Pier Chowder House and sat out on the deck, listening to the gulls and feeling the sun and wind.  Along the way we invented a new drink "Wine and Onion Ring"!

Just on the next pier were lobster traps - neat items but how do you ever capture the essence of them or even a sense of them?  Here's one attempt!

Hanging out in the mud - a clammer very hard at work.  He's rewarding these two gulls for their patience and willingness to hang out some distance away and not bother him.  Never did see him pull out a clam.
This picture probably has meaning only to a few! This TR-6 looked brand new and had the British Racing Green paint.  Very nice.

The view from the front lawn at the Topside Inn, another find that our virtual tour director gave us.  Very relaxing.

Evening coming to the Topside Inn - we stayed in the room on the bottom right, Lisa and Sean always stay up on the third floor - it has a reading nook in one of the windows!!

Our first day in Maine would not have been complete without tasting a lobster - and so we did.  Ever notice how people look at you when you stand up in a restaurant and take a picture of your food???? But it was great - and the butternut squash side has a taste of nutmeg - yum!!
Off to Monhegan Island tomorrow.
