West Desert Meander

Diana and I took some time off from our gardening and went out a ways to the west desert.  With Murphy along, it has to have a water supply so we took an exit that we knew had springs and he loved them.
The great thing about all these bird photos is that they were captured within 120 yards of I-80!! So much life and you cannot see it whizzing by on the freeway. We are very fortunate.
The iris stalks are in our back yard, the green alligator and rattlesnake were down the road a bit by a place called Horseshoe Springs.
Just a short ride from SLC and what wonders are available to us.

American Avocet with a watchful eye

Avocets landing - breeding plumage is the brown/rust/orange.

Blacknecked Stilts cavort in the stream

A peaceful spring in the desert.

A large green alligator floats down the stream!!

A for-real rattlesnake slithers away!

These two Avocets look like they are in a painting!
