I took over 1100 photos at the zoo last trip and I've whittled those down to about 350. The primary reason for the large number is my process - I take a lot of photos of a given animal when I think the view is good. Then I'm left with evaluating which of those I should keep. Some stand out immediately, either to keep or discard. But for many others there are nuances to evaluate - sharpness, light on eyes, action in photo, sense that the photo gives me...on and on. So it takes a while.
