Refuge Wonders

Murph and I spent the morning at Farmington Bay Wildlife Refuge, driving and walking around.  The day was clear, a bit cold, and we arrived about 9:30. We were greeted immediately by the Bald Eagles, then multiple Northern Harriers, small birds and a Red-tailed Hawk on the way home.
Hoarfrost was still on the grasses and teasels where we walked, and a female pheasant startled us as  Murph dashed through the grasses!
To make up for the goofball in the last post photos, I am putting up a lot of photos from today.  The Harriers were very curious and gave me several great photo ops.  I am so excited about the quality of photos from today, that I could not restrain myself and posted them.
A day like today is a wonderful reminder of how great life really can be.  Later in the day I sat on the back porch listening to robin-song, and watching grasses blow in the wind.
Enjoy!!

Eagles are the greeters in the winter sitting on this old tree.

Did you know that Coots can walk on water?

Young Northern Harrier checking us out.

Oquirrh mountains through the haze.

Pied Bill Grebes resting in the reflections of marsh grass.

Motionless in the air, the Harrier watches his prey.

Very flexible arms!

A mature Harrier flies by.

Inscrutable bird of prey.

Time to leave!

Teasels backlit by sun.

Saltgrass with hoarfrost on it.

Startled ducks escaping from the mad dog and photographer in the weeds!

Ice formations on branches above a stream in the refuge.

The Coots are making tracks across the ice - the duck doesn't seem to be very worried.

Small songbirds in the sun.

Well, hello to you!!
